Have A Halloween Baby Shower

Have a howling good time with a Halloween baby shower

Not many people schedule a Halloween baby shower. Somehow the ghoulish holiday doesn't seem to match with celebrating a new birth. However, if you're willing to experiment a little, and you have a Mom who doesn't mind stepping a bit outside the ordinary, Halloween ideas make fantastic baby shower themes.

Making Halloween baby shower invitations

Halloween silhouettes are easy to draw and cut out, and they make excellent baby shower invitations. Black cats, ghosts, and pumpkins are all easy suggestions: just cut the silhouette out of construction paper, then print out the important information and glue it into the middle of the invitation.

You can also buy Halloween baby shower invitations. Get any old Halloween styled invitation, usually available at party stores, and fill in the vital information. If you really want to get in the spirit, tape a piece of candy to each invite.

You probably don't want to use haunted houses or zombies for baby shower themes (although if you do, more power to you). Stick to Halloween's more innocuous imagery, like cats and pumpkins.

Orange and black streamers make extremely simple and inexpensive Halloween baby shower decorations, as do pumpkins. If you're feeling really creative, carve a jack-o-lantern in a cheerful cherub face, or in the shape of a rattle, bottle, or any other baby themed object.

Halloween baby shower games

What's a baby shower without baby shower games? Halloween offers a great theme to work with, and you can play all sorts of unique, interesting, and fun games with a spooky theme. Just a few ideas include:

-Invite guests to attend in baby themed costumes, and give prizes for the best one.

-Have a diapering race and see who can diaper a pumpkin fastest. Make sure the pumpkins aren't too huge, though - otherwise, no one will be able to do it. Alternatively, provide string, tape, etc. and a HUGE pumpkin, and challenge people to get the diaper on. You can also have a pumpkin carving competition, always fun at Halloween.

-Pumpkin bowling uses small pumpkins as balls and baby bottles (plastic, please!) as pins. Mom gets the baby bottles after, and everyone has a good time laughing at the pumpkins trying to roll.

-Buy inexpensive plastic spider rings and give guests one for each finger (or five for one hand if you prefer). Any guest who says the word 'baby' has to give their ring to the person who caught them. At the end of the night, the guest with the most rings wins a prize.

Food and party favors

Anything pumpkin will make fantastic Halloween baby shower fare: pumpkin muffins, pie, or even soup. Pumpkin is actually a very versatile food, and you could conceivably make a whole meal out of it. Failing that, invite each guest to cook up their favorite Halloween themed treat and bring it along - less work for you.

For party favors, give out kiddy type treat bags, scented candles, or silly Halloween favors - the point is to have fun more than to get something amazing. With these ideas, you're sure to have an amazing Halloween baby shower.
